water main break on Thursday in Novi has prompted several nearby schools to close.
It also prompted the area’s regional water authority to issue a boil water alert for three municipalities near the break.
Novi city officials said at about 7:20 a.m. that the Oakland County community was experiencing a loss in water pressure due to a main break on 14 Mile Road west of M-5.

Less than an hour later, the city said crews were working to fix the problem and the break was in a 42-inch transmission main owned and operated by Great Lakes Water Authority. Officials said they expected the repairs to take several hours before service was restored.
Steven Gabel, 62, who lives on Kingsley Lane near the site of the water main break, said it has left him and his neighbors without water as well as limited their entrance and exit into their subdivision.
